Crete is one of my favourite holiday/photographic destinations. I think when you see these photographs you’ll probably understand why.
Samaria gorge has some of the most spectacular scenery in Greece. The sheer scale of the gorge when you walk through it is breathtaking. These are some older 35 mm film photographs.
This photograph gives you some indication of scale. Any ordinary person walking through the Samaria gorge is made to look tiny and insignificant.
Although the river may look fairly tame, when the winter rains arrive it often becomes a dangerous torrent.
Spili is a traditional style Cretan village, high in the mountains.
Prevelli monastery near Plakias, on the south coast of Crete. This view shows the monks living quarters.
The old stone bridge which crosses the river leading to the palm fringed beach below Prevelli monastery.
The old ruined monastery by the road to Prevelli.
